Pearls – Pearl Necklaces
Wednesday, June 30th, 2010Pearl jewelry is known for being classic, elegant and loaded with old world glamour. But today, all thatâs changing as pearls move away from being conventional and branch out into a world of different settings and stylish jewelry combinations. True, when you think of pearls, you canât help but conjure up images of our new First Lady, Michelle Obama and her tasteful trendsetting style of contemporary sweaters and short pearl necklaces. So, itâs becoming obvious that pearls are so much more than they used to be.  Traditional round pearl necklaces in off-white will always be a fashion staple, but why not try something fresh and new? For example, pearl pendants in Tahitian black or royal purple can add luster and draw attention to your collarbone.  Pearl necklaces incorporating diamonds, rhinestones or CZ can take the element to a whole new level by creating a vibrant and beautiful focal point.  Colorful pearls not only add a spark, they can also be less expensive than perfectly round white or off-white pearls.  Colors include shades of cream, and pastels such as pink and yellow.  South sea pearls can also be silver and look gorgeous when paired with a sterling silver clasp or setting. Pearl necklaces are taking off in a big way due to the versatility of the designs.  Longer strands can be layered and worn together or with other colors.  Pearls can be worked in and grouped with long sterling-silver chains for an 80s Madonna-inspired vibe.  Irregular shaped freshwater pearls can be combined with beads, corals and earthly materials for a Caribbean take on this American classic.  Look for necklaces that have spacers to protect the pearls. Sure, traditional pearl necklaces will always have their place, but itâs nice to know that there are other fashion-forward options for those of us who choose to take it up a notch.
